Can I take my animal with me on the train?

Eurostar

Only registered guide and assistance dogs are allowed on Eurostar trains. Your dog must have been trained by one of the following organizations:

  • Assistance Dogs (UK)
  • The International Guide Dog Federation
  • Assistance Dogs Europe
  • Assistance Dogs International
  • International Guide Dog Federation

When arriving or departing from the UK, you will need to provide the appropriate documentation for your dog. So make sure you have them with you.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs should also be registered with Eurostar in advance. Please inform yourself at Eurostar.

SNCF

You can take up to 2 pets or pet carriers with you, but you must buy a ticket for them before you travel.

Pets are divided into 3 categories:

  • Small pets weighing up to 6 kg must be housed in a pet carrier no larger than 45 cm x 30 cm x 25 cm. The box should either be stowed in the footwell or you can take it on your lap.
  • Larger pets weighing more than 6 kg must travel in the footwell and wear a muzzle throughout the journey.
  • Guide dogs and assistance dogs travel free of charge and do not have to wear a muzzle.

Thalys

  • Small pets up to 6 kg travel free when placed in a pet carrier no larger than 45 cm x 30 cm x 25 cm.
  • Dogs that weigh more than 6 kg require a ticket.
  • Large pets must be kept on a leash and muzzled.
  • Guide dogs and assistance dogs travel free of charge and do not have to wear a muzzle.

  • One pet can be taken per adult.
  • Small pets weighing less than 6 kg travel free when placed in a pet carrier no larger than 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm.
  • Larger dogs weighing 6 kg or more must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle.
