GRAPHIC DESIGN BERLIN

Creative work since 2004

Back to overview

Graphic design straight outta Berlin

As a graphic designer in Berlin, I have been realizing creative projects with a focus on web and logo design since 2011. Here in Berlin and of course all over Germany. I am your reliable partner when it comes to giving design an explicit task. I see myself not only as a creative head, but above all as a concept developer and consultant.
By the way: Thanks to my classic training as a media designer (2004 to 2007), I am also familiar with printing processes, etc. That means your print project is also in the best of hands with me. Ideally, we coordinate the online and offline media together so that in the end everything really comes from a single source.

2011-2013: graphic design in Berlin

Certainly not the first, but maybe one of the first, I started building my own website bit by bit from 2011 onwards. In the years 2011-2013, the number of graphic designers in Berlin was still manageable. I have known some of my old companions for almost ten years or more. Many have come and many have gone. At that time, many projects were also based on graphic design templates. Sometimes as a Photosop template, sometimes as a complete html template. Many projects from that time are still online today and I still serve many customers from that time. Nevertheless, the changes over the next seven years were by far the greatest. Not only did the importance of clean Google SEO become more important, the topic of mobile views for smartphones and tablets also increased steadily. A time in which the topic of bootstrap graphic design was used across the board.

2004-2007: Training as a graphic designer and first own project

As a classic trainee, I started an apprenticeship as a web and graphic designer in 2004. The exact term was called "Graphic artist for print and non-print media. A time in which the topic of online was clearly subordinate to the classic media and, if you like, also saw everything digital as an appendage, or even a necessary evil. Most of my developed Even then, websites were still based on html only. The triumphant advance of content management systems did not begin until 2006/2007, with Redaxo and Contenido in the lead.

Shortly thereafter, Wordpress also became a popular topic. In 2006, parallel to my training, I started developing graphic design projects for local businesses and small family businesses. After finishing my apprenticeship, I concentrated more and more on advertising and graphic design agencies, for which I worked as a freelance graphic designer for two more years.

22007-2009: Freelance graphic design for various agencies

I was able to gain my first experience as a freelance graphic designer between 2007 and 2009. At that time, my focus was almost exclusively on (web) design and much less on programming. At that time I served around 30 agencies from Berlin, Hamburg and the greater Munich area. Many graphic design agencies from the USA were also among my clients. Qualitative work and absolute reliability (meeting deadlines) were the be-all and end-all and ultimately also the reason why, as a freelancer, I have looked after many of my customers over the years. At this time I also began to gradually optimize and perfect my own website (s). Not only did the quality of the design increase, but also technical optimization. Already around 2008 I dealt extensively with the subject of Google search engine optimization. Even if it was then in a significantly different (simple) form than it is today.

2009-2011: Graphic Design Art Director in the Hanseatic city

After two years as a "supplier" and freelancer for various graphic design and advertising agencies throughout Germany, I changed camp in 2009. From then on I worked as an art director with a focus on web design and user experience for a Hamburg graphic design agency. Our customers included a large number of German municipal utilities, fashion magazines and furniture companies. In terms of design, the wild years of web design probably ended here. The principle of less is more finally reached the German websites and the topic of user experience and content first increased steadily. We were also able to achieve the first strong Google SEO rankings in the two years, which gave the agency Germany-wide a strong name and projects beyond the German-speaking area. Nevertheless, I decided to move to another location at the end of 2011 and started working as a freelance graphic designer again. With new possibilities and ambitious goals.

2013-2019: Chris And Friends graphic design from Berlin

At some point the time had come: A one-man show gradually became a steadily growing team. If you will, the only way to meet the ever-increasing demand in the graphic design market. Not just in Berlin, but across Germany.

Optimized work processes, wireframes and mobile first designs were the key points of the hour. We were also able to show a steadily growing customer base in these 6 years and finally moved into our new office in Karl-Marx-Alle in Berlin in 2015.

A sole proprietorship became a permanent team of 6-10 people. Including primarily project managers, programmers and actually other graphic designers from Berlin and the surrounding area.
