It was hardly surprising that the NFL chose two of the world's most successful musicians. After a rather dreary appearance by Maroon 5 at the Super Bowl 2019 and the controversial handling of the now unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who fell on his knees before NFL games at the national anthem in protest against police violence and racism in the 2016/17 season, had to get a real hit again. In the previous year, numerous superstars such as Jay-Z, Rihanna and Cardi B had no interest in appearing on the halftime show because of the Kaepernick debate.

Raymond James Stadium has had 65,857 seats since 2016. On special occasions - and the Super Bowl is undoubtedly one of these - the capacity can be increased to up to 75,000. However, due to the corona pandemic, the NFL only allowed 22,000 spectators.

The stadium's eye-catcher is the 31-meter-long pirate ship, which is placed behind the northern end zone and whose cannons fake gun salutes when the local Buccaneers score a touchdown. However, this highlight will not be there during this year's Super Bowl, according to a report by the NFL. "Shots" may only be fired at the team presentation and if the team from Tampa Bay wins.

In addition to NFL games, college football matches, international football matches and concerts are held at Raymond James Stadium. The WWE actually wanted to host the major event "WrestleMania 36" there on April 5, 2020, but due to the corona pandemic, the event was moved to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, where it took place without spectators. The Raymond James Stadium, which opened in 1998, was the location of the Super Bowl in 2001 (winner: Baltimore Ravens) and 2009 (winner: Pittsburgh Steelers).

Super Bowl 2021: who sang the national anthem?

Less prestigious than the halftime show, but still not uninteresting: Who will sing the US national anthem before the Super Bowl? In the patriotic United States, the anthem is sung before every NFL game. At Super Bowl LIV this honor was bestowed on Demi Lovato.

In the past, stars like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Luke Bryan, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and Neil Diamond have sung "The Star-Spangled Banner".

At the 2014 Super Bowl between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks (8:43), the song caused controversy. In an advertisement for the Coca-Cola company, people of different origins, including a woman with a headscarf, sang individual verses of "America the Beautiful" in their respective mother tongues. Americans belonging to the right-wing spectrum in particular subsequently called for a boycott against Coca-Cola - they were bothered by the fact that the song was not consistently sung in the original English.

Super Bowl 2021: "TikTok Tailgate" with Miley Cyrus

At the Super Bowl 2021 there was a premiere as part of the entertainment program. Miley Cyrus performed at the first TikTok Tailgate, an event created specifically for the 7500 vaccinated and NFL-invited medical facility workers.

"Tailgating" has a long tradition in American football. Several hours before the kickoff of a football game, especially in college and the NFL, fans meet in the parking lots in front of the stadium for the so-called "tailgate parties". They eat and drink from the hatches of their cars (“tail” means rear).

How much does advertising at the 2021 Super Bowl cost?

Year after year, America's largest companies come up with very special commercials for the Super Bowl - this will not change in 2021 despite the corona pandemic. And for that, they have to dig pretty deep into their pockets.

>> Super Bowl 2021 - Advertising: The best commercials for the NFL final <<

A 30-second advertisement at the 2021 Super Bowl costs $ 5.6 million - around $ 400,000 more than last year. Compared to 2010 ($ 2.8 million), the cost has doubled.

Referee: Who whistled the 2021 Super Bowl?

There was a premiere in the Super Bowl 2021. For the first time in SB history, Sarah Thomas was a woman in the team of referees:

Sarah Thomas was at the end of her sixth season in the NFL one of the seven referees in the final of the championship. The 47-year-old took on the role of “Down Judge”. The main referee is Carl Cheffers.

Corona: Did the Super Bowl 2021 take place with spectators?

Of course, the corona pandemic doesn't stop at the NFL either. After just a few weeks, numerous games were postponed in the regular season, but ultimately it was ended as planned. With a few exceptions, spectators were not allowed during the games.

>> NFL 2020/21: Results, schedule and standings after the end of the regular season <<

At the beginning of October, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis caused a sensation in the middle of a phase in which the global infection numbers were skyrocketing again with the lifting of the corona restrictions: He allowed all stadiums in the state to be fully utilized - including the Raymond James Stadium, the venue of the Super Bowl LV.

And apparently that was already a pointer to February 7, 2021. Because, as the NFL announced on January 22, the Super Bowl was not allowed to attend the Super Bowl this year the maximum number of spectators, but at least 22,000 fans were allowed. 7500 of them were already vaccinated employees of medical facilities, who received the tickets free of charge as thanks for their work in the pandemic. In addition, 14,500 other fans were there live at the major sporting event in the stadium, in compliance with strict protective measures.

>> Super Bowl 2021 with spectators: NFL allows 22,000 fans to enter! <<

Why is it officially called Super Bowl LV?

LV stands for the Roman numerals L (50) and V (5) and thus results in the number 55. Incidentally, this designation was introduced with the Super Bowl V (5), so that year numbers do not cause confusion. The only exception was Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers (24:10) on February 7, 2016.

Super Bowl 2021: who has home rights?

Even if a team, as in the case of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, plays a Super Bowl in its own stadium, it is not a given that it automatically has home rights. Because in the NFL, the teams from the AFC and the NFC alternately have home rights - the AFC champion in the even years and the NFC champion in the odd years. And so it happens that the “Bucs” also have home rights in their local Raymond James Stadium, which is attended by 22,000 spectators at the Super Bowl LV.

However, home rights in the Super Bowl are not really an advantage. The only effect on the game is the choice of jersey - this is where the home team takes precedence. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose the white jerseys. Why? Quite simply: superstition! 13 of the 16 NFL finalists who wore white won the Super Bowl.

For the Kansas City Chiefs around quarterback Patrick Mahomes only the red jerseys are left in this case. With them, however, they won in the Super Bowl 2020 against the San Francisco 49ers - and in November during the regular season also against the white clad "Bucs" (27:24). Two good omen for defending the title!
