Quarrel with girlfriend as trigger of blood act in Canada?

According to the investigators, a quarrel between the later perpetrator and his girlfriend could possibly have been the trigger for the worst blood act in Canadian history.

The man had quarreled with his girlfriend and physically attacked her, but she was able to escape, the investigators said at a press conference on Friday.

This incident "could possibly have been the catalyst that started it all," said investigator Darren Campbell. This has to be examined more closely, however, and a planned act cannot be ruled out either. The girlfriend had hidden in the woods after the attack, later informed the police and provided the key information to clear up the crime, the investigators said.

In the incident, a 51-year-old man in the Atlantic province of Nova Scotia killed at least 22 people last weekend. Three other people were injured and several properties and cars were set on fire. After about twelve hours of chase, which stretched over an area of ‚Äč‚Äčabout 100 kilometers, the man was found at a gas station in Enfield by the police and killed.

Because the perpetrator wore a police uniform and drove a car that looked like a police car, it was very difficult to locate him, the investigators said. How he got this equipment was initially unclear.

Numerous Canadians wanted to commemorate the victims on Friday and therefore wear red clothes and observe a minute's silence.
