Once again, a successful coaches challenge from assistant Thomas Zamboni was at the origin of a Biel playoff victory.

For the second time in these playoffs, Thomas Zamboni, whose place is under the stadium roof, influenced what happened on the ice. And again the video coach from Biel was right with his veto.

"The fact that this has now happened again is very special," says the 31-year-old and adds, "it takes a little luck."

I saw immediately that it was close. At first it is still a guess.

  • In the 5th quarter-final game, a coaches challenge prevents HC Davos from scoring 3-2.
  • On Thursday in the Resega a previous offside is revealed again. The leadership of the Luganesi (9th) consequently has no validity.

Zamboni described afterwards how he had come to his knowledge. «I saw immediately that it was close. At first it is still a guess. " He then checked the controversial scene by rewinding the live images and was certain after 30 seconds.

He immediately radioed his impressions down to the players bench. After all, it is head coach Antti Törmänen's responsibility to take the coaches challenge.

An interaction of the whole team

The "Bianconeri" came to the (regular) leadership in the second third. But the Zealanders countered with 2 hits and are now in the semi-final series 2-0 in front.

So, thanks to his eagle eyes, does Zamboni see himself as a secret hero? “It's not that simple,” he waves away. «Because it takes a whole team. We needed a strong Jonas Hiller between the posts and finally two goals. "

  • Comment from Pascal Ringenbach (stuhlflechter)
What I don't understand: that the penalty that was committed after the offside, excluding the non-whistled stick stab of a Luganesi against Hiller after the "goal", will be given anyway. Because if the referees had seen the offside and whistled immediately, there would have been no penalty. So the Bieler had no goal to complain about but a double outnumber, which somehow works like a punishment for the challenge.

After all, the time was put back until the time when the offside took place ...

      @ scarafoni
Which makes sense if you decide to go offside. Only then you should either whistle everything and punish what happened afterwards or nothing at all and not just one half. Anyway, I like to allow the Bielers to get into the final a bit faster than the ZSC, which only wins if the Z is really challenged.

I see it exactly as you do, in case it didn't come across;)

      ;-) Yeah, I wasn't sure. Beautiful Easter!

That would make absolutely no sense NOT to penalize fouls that happen after the offside. Accordingly, as a player, you should get the hell out of it, because there is a time window where there is no whistle!
